About Virology Congress

Welcome to Virology Congress 2021

COVID-19 Instructions

The Organizing committee wishes to warmly invite you to attend the Pan-African Virology Conference, which is scheduled from 03-04 November 2021, in Ghana’s capital city, Accra. This conference will bring together African virologists all over the world who are researching into various aspects of virology, representatives from industry, and clinical virologists. To allow for interactive and collaborative discussions, one of the peaceful and relaxing hotels in Accra has strategically been selected as the venue of the conference, and is located near the nation’s premier university, University of Ghana, Legon. As part of the conference, we will encourage the showcasing of works and contributions of Africans to the field, foster collaboration and eventually establish the African Virology Society (AVS) through an inception meeting. Researchers and students who are related to Africa by birth or descent, or anyone whose research focuses on Africa, are invited to this conference. We hope that this maiden conference, to be held each year thereafter, will strengthen the bond among African virologists and create opportunities for young virologist to perform research on the African continent with much flexibility and great mentorship. Much gratitude to our guest speakers and all delegates who will be taking part in either oral or poster presentations. We acknowledge the support of the abstract review committee and Speaker Coordinator committees.

We hope that all attendees will enjoy the conference, socialize, network and above all, make sure to have a quick tour of the beautiful capital city of Ghana.

All congress physical attendees will have to observe strict social distancing and wear their masks at all times.

Attendees from outside Ghana must have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure and also undertake an additional antigen test on arrival at Kotoka International Airport (KIA). This costs of antigen test at KIA is $50 for Ghanaians and citizens of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and $150 for everyone else, with results available within 30 minutes. Payment must be made online prior to boarding the flight to Ghana.

Anyone testing positive on arrival will immediately be transferred to hospital for further assessment. Non-residents required to isolate in a government health facility will do so at their own cost, while for Ghanaians the cost will be covered by the state.

Market Analysis

The global virology market is estimated at $1693 million in 2017 and is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 5.4% during the forecast period 2018-2023. North America is the largest virology market led by the U.S., owing to technological advancements such as rapid, portable diagnostics. N. America is expected to retain the top market position over the forecast period as well.

Europe is projected to maintain the position as the second largest market globally. During the forecast period, Europe is anticipated to record the highest CAGR, attributed by enhanced healthcare infrastructure, facilitated access to diagnostics, and growing affordability of diagnostic tests for viral diseases.

Japan is currently a growing virology market, which is estimated to grow at a remarkable CAGR through to 2025. However, APEJ and Africa are expected to witness the most promising growth opportunities during the forecast period. While China will be a leading APEJ market, India will contribute a considerable revenue share to the APEJ virology market.

Why Accra?

Accra is the administrative centre of Ghana and is deeply a cosmopolitan city. It is home to the major state institutions and has interesting tourist centres, including Kwame Nkrumah Musoleum and the National Arts Centre. Accra is a peaceful city with residents who have favourable disposition towards foreigners. The Ghanaian proverbial hospitality is keenly expressed in Accra. As a cosmopolitan city, all indigenous dishes of the country are served at popular restaurants. Continental foods are equally served to help foreigners have a feel of home away from home. The preponderance of Twi (Akan) helps the foreigner to pick a few mutually intelligible words for basic conversation. The cost of living is relatively cheap in comparison to other major cities across Africa.
